This is just about the same for every big city. Unless you’re willing to explore outside of downtown anywhere, you’ll miss the “real” city. Also, there’s more to Chicago than the north side, which is where you listed “real Chicago” to be. There’s even a south side roller derby league now. So don’t get too frustrated - this argument can go...
I’ve been cooped up for days, I am recovering from a 25 minute crying fit over my dog, and isolating myself isn’t helping any.
So tomorrow: walk around the neighborhood, spend some money, drink some coffee, maybe see a movie.
